Sappi Ideas that Matter, competition entry

Sappi annually holds a competition where design students
choose a non-governmental organization (NGO) dealing
with abuse and sponsor the production of a winning campaign.

Our group of 4 chose the Cart Horse Protection Association (CHPA).
CHPA wanted us to develop a campaign that would encourage children
to treat horses with respect and love in order to decrease the alarming rate
of abuse of horses amongst children between the ages of 8 to 10.

Our solution was to create a teacher package that would be included
in the school curriculum for primary school learners,
in the Cape Flats. Our group was one of the Sappi ‘Ideas that Matter’ grant winners.

Fordcorp ran a competition where they
listed a few of their brands that needed to be rebranded.
My partner and I chose to rebrand Mageu Number 1.
We had to give the brand vitality
and simultaneously appeal to the South African male blue collar worker.

As the brand is a proudly South African drink
our solution was to use Tsotsitaal to show
the diversity and spirit of South Africa
and to promote the fact that Mageu Number 1
gives the male blue collar worker energy throughout the day.”
